Social media for the greater good – (RED) & Mashable

I’ve always been a fan of the (RED) cause. Admittedly, I really got on board when one of my idols – Bono from U2 started spouting it, but I loved the basic concept that brought us back to earth – 40c a day could provide critical medication to people that need it to survive.

I’m not here to talk about that cause so much, because I’m not an expert – but I love the notion of someone like Mashable – the world’s leading social media commentary site – and (RED) getting together to create “Social Good Day”.

Here we are for the first time in history with a communication technology that unites people and empowers them to share their views like never before. Anyone reading this blog has probably seen a thousand just like it, and encounters so called ‘social media experts’ every day on their various Internet travels.

But at last we’re starting to see some people learning how to leverage this technology for greater good. What a great idea, and what a precedent it will set.
